The Johnny Football era is underway in Canada.

While Manziel hasn't seen an NFL field since 2015 with the Cleveland Browns, he's playing professional football again. Friday would mark his debut, and it wasn't too bad of one despite the defeat.

Manziel completed 9-of-11 passes for 80 yards and ran two times for 10 yards.

Manziel's fifth and final possession showed promise, as he advanced the Tiger-Cats' offense from its own 29-yard line to Toronto's 12-yard line.

Despite the excitement surrounding Manziel's preseason debut, the Argonauts beat the Tiger-Cats 36-18. He was flagged for intentional grounding on the next play, losing 20 yards in the process and any chance of scoring. Two of his five drives would end on a third-down sack, giving the ball back to Toronto. Another drive ended after Manziel completed a pass but his wideout fumble.

Johnny Football still has plenty of work to do in order to re-establish himself on the football field, of course.

The Tiger-Cats' regular season kicks off on Saturday, June 16.
