"We are living - regardless of what happens in that meeting between the two dictators - what we are seeing right now, this is history". "The world will see a major change".

"Tough doing a live show", one tweet said.

During a news conference following the summit, Mr Trump pays tribute to Mr Kim by saying "anyone can make war, only the most courageous can make peace".

The friendly banter marked the end of one of the most highly anticipated and high stakes diplomatic meetings in a century.

"I feel really great. It's my honor and we will have a terrific relationship I have no doubt". Kim Jong-un stands open-mouthed as an interpreter translates.

But they did get day-old news on Kim's trip, with images published of his jaunts around Singapore the night before the summit with the city state's foreign minister and education minister. There was a past that grabbed our ankles and wrong prejudices and practices that at times covered our eyes and ears.

Mr Trump responded on Twitter, saying: "The fact that I am having a meeting is a major loss for the USA, say the haters & losers".

With cameras of the world's press trained on them, Trump and Kim displayed an initial atmosphere of bonhomie.

"Nice to meet you Mister President", Kim said moments later as he sat alongside Trump, against a backcloth of North Korean and US flags, beaming more broadly as the USA president gave him a thumbs up. They were accompanied by their respective officials. "That was a mistake, that's going to cost him a lot of money", Trump said today.

"Will you give up your nuclear weapons", this reporter followed. The president was joined by a translator and his chief of staff John Kelly along with Secretary Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton. Trump had said on Saturday he would know within a minute of meeting Kim whether he would reach a deal.
