Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow suffers heart attack

WASHINGTON-The White House and friends of Larry Kudlow said Tuesday he was expected to make a swift recovery from his heart attack and resume work soon as President Donald Trump's top economic adviser.

Kudlow was released from the hospital earlier Wednesday and doctors say Kudlow's recovery is going "very well", White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

President Trump announced that Kudlow had suffered a heart attack in a tweet while in Singapore preparing for his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The White House has described the cardiac event as "very mild". "He just said, 'I want you to know I'm fine, I'm going to be fine,"' Laffer said.

Kudlow, who is 70 years old, had just joined the Trump administration in March. Yet Kudlow has defended Trump's trade policies in public since his appointment.

A former chief economist for a Wall Street firm, he also served as associate director for economics and planning in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) during the Reagan administration.

Kudlow appeared Sunday on CNN to back up Trump's complaint that he had been blindsided by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's criticism of his tariff threats at a news conference that followed the G-7 meeting in Canada. He has also worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of NY.
