Lindsey committed "an unspeakable horror", Benenati said. "We're just praying that he's going to be OK". In 2010, a judge ordered him to live with his mother in Deltona as part of his probation.

Police arrived at the apartment where Lindsey was barricaded inside the home. But another neighbor, Miguel Lopez, says interactions with him were weird. That officer remains in critical condition. Valencia was responding to a domestic violence call from Lindsey's girlfriend.

Lindsey has had multiple arrests in the past, including aggravated assault charges, according to Orlando Police.

When the SWAT officers finally entered the apartment Monday, they found the bodies of the four children and Lindsey. Lindsey's body was found in a closet with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The standoff lasted nearly 24 hours. Lillia, the 10-year-old, was a huge Disney fan and enjoyed being with her friends.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the gunman also killed himself. About five blocks from the apartment, two police squad cars blocked the entrance to the street.


"We saw the police officer laying on the ground with blood and everything", she said.

Lindsey, 35, was on probation and had a criminal history involving arson, battery and theft, court records show.

"He never made any threats to the children", Mina said of the conversations during the standoff. One officer was able to return fire, the police chief said.

The officer was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and was expected to survive.
