Asbury Lanes officially reopens with Springsteen performance

Bruce Springsteen made an appearance at the Asbury Lanes' "Opening Event", tonight.

Springsteen told the crowd "it's been a joy" watching the rebirth of Asbury.

As previously reported, Asbury Lanes initially operated as a regular bowling alley in the 1960's before transitioning into a 350-capacity alternative music venue in the early 2000s. The Man, the Grammy-winning rock band from Portland, Oregon.

An extended reading of Don Raye's "Down the Road a Piece" followed, and saw the Boss give audible directions to the band as he continued to push them deeper into the blues jam.

"I think part of our goal here was to take what Asbury Park has always had and try to add a little something different and make it even better". Below are videos of Springsteen's opening comments, and of him performing the bar-band standards "I Just Want to Make Love to You", "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu", "Twist and Shout" and "Down the Road Apiece" with the Tangiers Blues Band. The event was publicized as being "in support of" the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County, and a donation was made to that organization.
