Hero dog suffers swollen snout after saving owner from rattlesnake bite

A golden retriever puppy is being touted as a hero after jumping in front of its owner and being bitten by a rattlesnake in Arizona.

Paula Godwin, a woman from Anthem, said on Facebook that her and her two dogs, Copper and Todd, were hiking "bright and early" around 7th Street and Carefree Highway in Phoenix on June 29.

Todd jumped to protect Godwin and was bitten in the face in the process, Godwin says.

"That snake would have bit my leg for sure and he is absolutely my hero", Godwin told 7News.

"It just so happened that he got in the way or at least he was too curious to see what was next to my legs, which saved me from getting bitten", she added.

But Todd swooped in and saved her, she said.

Godwin received that and then some, in the form of thousands of combined comments, reactions and shares.

News of Todd's heroics spread after Godwin's Facebook post showing his injuries went viral.

Friends of Todd has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for Anthem Pets Animal Rescue.

Unfortunately, the snake bit the dog, right in the face!

"Todd wants to help more puppies that may need help". However, the money raised is not going to be used for Todd's medical bills.

Paula Godwin posted the story to social media on Friday, saying that Todd, her beloved golden retriever, is a hero.

Godwin also provided an update on Todd Sunday. "He was there for about 12 hours, and we were able to bring him home Friday night".
