Capela agrees to five-year deal with Rockets

"Obviously we love the game of basketball, but to be able to provide for your family for generations, that's what we do it for", Capela's Rockets teammate James Harden told reporters Friday in Las Vegas.

Despite failing to make a major splash throughout the early part of free agency, the Houston Rockets found a way to do so by retaining one of their most prized possessions this week.

The Houston Rockets confirmed on Friday that they have reached an agreement with star center Clint Capela on a 5-year, 90 million United States dollars contract.

Last season, Capela, the 24-year-old big man, averaged an impressive 13.9 points and 10.8 rebounds while shooting an incredible 65.2 percent from the field in 74 games.

Capela's work habits and diligence have paid off handsomely for the Rockets, who selected Capela with the 25th pick in 2014. "He listens, he learns, he goes out there and just competes". Capela ranked eighth in the league in rebounding and second in blocks.

The Rockets rewarded veteran point guard Chris Paul with a four-year, $160 million contract on July 1.

The Swiss-born Capela had been seeking an extension comparable to those signed in 2016 by Oklahoma City's Steven Adams (four years, $100 million) and Utah's Rudy Gobert (four years, $102 million).
