"We hope that the new government of Pakistan will work constructively to build a safe, stable, secure and developed South Asia free of terror and violence", India's foreign affairs ministry said in a statement.

Prime Minister Modi also reiterated his vision of peace and development in the entire neighbourhood.

Provisional results released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday morning showed Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), or Pakistan Movement for Justice party, had won 110 seats out of the 251 races where counting had ended.

But the 116 seats won by Khan's lawmakers were not enough to give him a majority in the 272-seat National Assembly without coalition partners, and he has ruled out both of the other two major parties, calling them corrupt.

Khattak's clarification came after rumours swelled that he had told PM-elect Imran Khan that he would leave the party and quit politics if he were not made CM again. Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) managed to bag 64 and 43 seats, respectively.

PTI did better than expected to scoop up 16.86 million votes, trouncing Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which finished second with 12.89 million.

Noor Ali, a Pakistani real estate agent, said the new prime minister and his government should prioritise providing new job opportunities for their people and work hard to eliminate poverty - which, as of 2017, was at nearly 30 per cent, according to the country's ministry of planning and reforms.

The Allahu Akbar Tehreek party of Hafiz Saeed, who is accused of masterminding the 2008 attacks that killed 166 people in the Indian city of Mumbai, did not win a single seat.

If the calculation is done on the basis of just those lawmakers who are directly elected on 270 seats, then it becomes simpler.

The PTI leaders who have won more than one seat will have to vacate additional seats as the law allows an individual to retain only one seat. Fawad Chaudhry, the PTI's spokesperson, claimed that the party's seats in the provincial assembly would reach 140 by tonight as several more members have pledged alliance with it.

Recounting has also been approved at six Punjab Assembly seats, three Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and two Sindh Assembly seats. "It was a very good meeting and you can call it a meeting of the minds".

"We think a robbery has been committed", Maulana Fazalur Rehman, head of the religious Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) party, told reporters.

Sharif and his daughter Maryam were arrested on July 13, minutes after they returned from Britain seeking to revitalise their flagging PML-N party ahead of a July 25 election.
