Russian Federation names Steven Seagal humanitarian envoy with US

The Russian foreign minister announced on Facebook that the actor will be its special envoy for humanitarian ties with the US. He's a close friend and staunch supporter of Putin, whom he has hailed as a "great world leader".

While Seagal is popular in Russian Federation, he has been accused in the USA of sexual misconduct.

The position is unpaid, said Russian officials, who compared the role to that of a U.N. goodwill ambassador - a distinguished volunteer who calls attention to the work of the United Nations. Seagal has been accused by many women over the years, including Jenny McCarthy, Portia de Rossi, and Rachel Grant, to name a few.

Seagal was also granted Serbian citizenship in 2016, following several visits to the Balkan country.

Trump has drawn criticism for his reluctance at times to speak out against Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly on the issue of election interference.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on the appointment of Mr. Seagal on August 4.

Seagal won't be receiving any payment for doing the job, which the ministry described as "the case of people's diplomacy meeting with traditional diplomacy".

Seagal, who occasionally appears on Russian state TV to talk about his views and career, was cited by Kremlin-backed TV station RT as welcoming the appointment.

"I've always tried to do everything possible to help Russian-American relations to improve", the action movie star told TASS news agency.

For more than a decade Seagal, who according to his own website is 66, has been a regular visitor to Russian Federation. "For anyone to think that Vladimir Putin had anything to do with fixing the elections, or even that the Russians have that kind of technology, is stupid", was quoted as saying in the wake of allegations Trump sought Russian intervention during his electoral campaign.
