TRAGEDY: Missing Iowa Student Mollie Tibbetts Found Dead, Sources Say

A man in the US illegally has been charged with the murder of Mollie Tibbetts, the college student who went missing more than a month ago.

"We commend the swift action by local, state, & federal investigators working in Iowa in apprehending an illegal immigrant, who's now charged with first-degree murder".

According to court records, officials say video collected from the east side of Brooklyn, Iowa showed Tibbetts running and a dark-colored Chevy Malibu driving back and forth in the area.

Like the rest of the world, Donald Trump was captivated by the disappearance of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts.

Based on the interview with Rivera, clothing found at the scene and tentative identification from the medical examiner, authorities say the body they found is Tibbetts. A body was discovered in the early morning hours of Tuesday, in a farm field southeast of Brooklyn, Iowa.

Investigators said Tibbetts was last seen July 18 in Brooklyn, a rural community of about 1,400 people, as she took a routine evening jog. "I can just tell you that it seemed that he followed her, seemed to be drawn to her on that particular day, for whatever reason he chose to abduct her", Rahn told reporters at a news conference outside the sheriff's office in Montezuma, where Rivera was being jailed. He allegedly said he started running alongside her or behind her.

There's actually more to this story that was revealed during the law enforcement press briefing this afternoon.

The University of Iowa student's last known communication was a July 18 Snapchat message she sent to her boyfriend, Dalton Jack, for whom she was house sitting, according to the Register.

If convicted, the charge carries a mandatory life sentence.

Tibbetts, a 20-year-old student at the University of Iowa, had been missing since July 18. "I'm going to call the police.' And then, she took off running and he, in turn, chased her down". "We're getting them changed".

Rivera led investigators to the body on Tuesday.

Authorities, who had narrowed their search to a carwash, Tibbetts's boyfriend's home, a truck stop and two farms.

Bongino said that pointing to the illegal immigration problem is not "politicizing the issue" of her death.

Mollie's brother, Jake Tibbetts, told the newspaper the family went "through stages of scared and sad".

After the student's disappearance, a $331,000 reward was offered for any information leading to the discovery of her wherabouts - the largest in Iowa state history.

"Our hearts go out to the Tibbetts family and to the Brooklyn community". And Republican Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said residents "are angry that a broken immigration system allowed a predator like this to live in our community". It was also reported that a body was found in a field about 15 minutes away from Mollie's hometown and it's believed to be that of Mollie though authorities haven't confirmed the identification as they await autopsy results.
