Celtics' Jabari Bird involved in domestic violence incident

Boston Celtics guard Jabari Bird is behind bars after being arrested for reportedly assaulting, strangling and kidnapping someone.

Bird will be brought on charges of assault and battery 209-A (Boston PD code for domestic violence), strangulation and kidnapping. Here is the full statement.

Authorities in MA say an National Basketball Association player has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and assaulting an individual, though details were scant as of the latest reports available.

Bird is now being held at a Boston-area hospital while he awaits an evaluation related to a "domestic violence incident" that left a victim hospitalized. The victim is being treated at another hospital.

The Celtics acknowledged in a statement that they were "aware of the incident" involving Bird and are "taking it very seriously".

What this incident means for Bird's future in Boston, though, remains up in the air.

Bird was a second round pick by the team a year ago.

According to the Boston Globe, Boston police officer Stephen McNulty, a spokesman for the department, did not have any information about the arrest early Saturday, but was awaiting a further report. He had a strong summer league for the Celtics, averaging 16.8 points per game on 57 percent shooting.
