The Cleveland Browns announced they would release Gordon on Saturday and the reasons why are beginning to trickle out.

There was an "overall trust issue" between Gordon and the team, according to reports. He had been ruled out for their Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints due to a hamstring injury. The 27-year-old was slowed by a hamstring issue after he reported late to training camp while missing three weeks to receive counselling and treatment for alcohol and drug dependence.

Given his enormous talent it wouldn't be shocking if a team took a chance on him immediately.

Although Gordon has been with the Browns since 2012, he's only played in 41 games over seven seasons, totaling 180 receptions, 3,106 yards, and 16 touchdowns.

Hopefully he gets his life together.

"This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday", Dorsey said in a prepared statement. Williams returned it 22 yards to the Cleveland 18.

The New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns could not have scripted a more engaging close to their game.

Quarterback Tyrod Taylor targeted Gordon just three times, though, and Gordon finished with one catch for a 17-yard touchdown, which allowed the Browns to tie the score with 1:58 left in regulation and force overtime. However, a hamstring injury Browns coach Hue Jackson said Gordon suffered while conditioning prevented him from practicing until September 3.

Gordon was healthy for and during Friday's practice, usually when teams start to make final decisions on roster counts for Sunday's matchups.

Josh Gordon is no longer a member of the Cleveland Browns after he was released by the National Football League franchise.
