Earlier Florence County Sheriff's Office confirmed three county deputies and two city officers had been shot at the Vintage Place subdivision, off Hoffmeyer Rd, Florence.

A Twitter post from Florence County Emergency Management says that "Due to a high priority call in". All that is known is that the suspect is male, and is in custody at McLeod Regional Medical Center, according to ABC.

Four police were then shot while going to their aid, and it was one of these officers who was killed.

Officials continue to advise residents to stay away from the area, as it is an active crime investigation, and say there are Sheriff's deputies, police officers and other first responders on scene.

President Donald Trump and SC lawmakers offered prayers for the victims.

Kirby also said that the search warrant involved an accusation that a 27-year-old person at the home sexually assaulted a foster child who lives in the home.

The conditions of the other officers were not available.

The suspect was taken into custody by 6 p.m., according to the emergency management department.

The wounded were evacuated after police drove in with a bullet-resistant vehicle, while the suspect barricaded himself inside, along with an unspecified number of children.

Five law enforcement officers in SC are in an unknown condition after being shot by a man now in custody, reported The Miami Herald Wednesday.

President Trump tweeted that his "thoughts and prayers are with the Florence County Sheriff's Office and the Florence Police Department tonight".

A total of seven law enforcement officers were wounded, including one fatally, in a SC shooting.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster reacted to the shooting on social media.
