Antoine Griezmann, a World Cup victor with France and Europa League champion at Atletico Madrid, is nominated alongside worldwide teammate and Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante. Apart from him, other nominated members of France World Cup team are Paul Pogba, N'Golo Kante, Kylian Mbappe and Raphael Varane.

The list is compiled by the editorial staff of France Football magazine following which journalists from all over the world vote for the best player in the world.

Griezmann, who was ignored for FIFA's The Best awards, is among the top 30 for the Ballon d'Or nominees.

"In this best team in the world, there must be the best player in the world, right?"

"In any case, that is how I see it".

Modric, a World Cup runner-up with Croatia, beat Juventus' Ronaldo and Salah to win the Federation Internationale de Football Association prize last month after Messi was surprisingly left off the final three-man list.

Ronaldo's nomination comes after the 33 year old last week denied rape allegations levelled against him by a woman who sued him in court in the United States.

"Whether it's Grizou [Griezmann], Kylian [Mbappe] or Raph [Varane], they deserve it much more than me", Pogba said.

However, the Manchester United man believes he should not win the Ballon d'Or ahead of his worldwide team-mates. Ronaldo is the current defending champion, having won his fifth Ballon d'Or in 2017. "It would be a dream to be considered an example to others".

The ceremony to announce the victor will take place in Paris on 3 December, when a women's award will also be presented for the first time.
