The bulk of Virginia's tax incentives come in the form of a cash grant of $22,000 for each job added over the next 12 years, as long as the average annual wage of those jobs is at least $150,000 - a total of $550 million if Amazon adds the 25,000 jobs it says it will, and up to $750 million it if adds more jobs on top of that.

In exchange for what Amazon is bringing to Queens, the company will receive $1.525 billion in incentives - about $48,000 for each job.

The contest drew 238 bids, as local officials leapt at the chance to land a potentially transformative investment. Amazon has declined to comment.

In each case, the deal is largely the same - Amazon has reached performance-based direct incentive agreements with each city.

In New York, Washington, D.C. and Nashville, it's likely Amazon is gaining access to a highly-educated, tech-savvy, young workforce. Virginia's is the 26th, just above the $750 million deal Solar City secured to build a factory in Buffalo in 2014.
