The Duke of Cambridge has paid tribute to his close friend and chairman of the Leicester City Football Club, who was killed in a fiery helicopter crash last month. "My thoughts today are with the family and friends of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and all the victims of the awful crash at Leicester City Football Club", he wrote.

During the service, William and Kate were joined by Vichai's wife, Aimon, son Aiyawatt and daughter Aroonroong.

William is the President of the Football Association and the couple also know the club's chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

The Duchess of Cambridge laid a bouquet of flowers at the crash site with a signed condolence card from the couple that read, "To Vichai and all those who died in this bad tragedy, you will be dearly missed".

Kate Middleton and Prince William have a busy day of official engagements ahead, as they visit Leicester in the United Kingdom.

Srivaddhanaprabha "of course was a man of wealth, but that wealth did not leave him disconnected from those around him".

The Duchess of Cambridge speaks to Leicester City fans during a visit to Leicester City Football Club on November 28. "He believed in giving back", the Duke of Cambridge said in a statement released by Kensington Palace.

"Catherine and I also wanted to come to Leicester because of what the people of this city, and fans of this club, have shown us all over the last few weeks".

He added: "If only more owners (of professional football clubs) took his example of how to benefit the community, be involved".

"You wrote the best underdog story in the history of modern sport", he said.

Pilots Eric Swaffer and Izabela Lechowicz and two of Srivaddhanaprabha's staff members, Nusara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare, also lost their lives after the aircraft plummeted to the ground shortly after Leicester's 1-1 draw with West Ham on October 27.

They were personally acquainted with Khun Vichai.
