I'm still trying to forget the denim-shorts and sequin-less Joanne phase (she also took home a Grammy last night for that album).

Childish Gambino, despite not attending the show, won both Record and Song of the Year for "This Is America", the first ever rap song to win either of those awards. She was introduced by her adorable 9-year-old grandson before proving she's still got it.

Music legend Diana Ross is going to be performing this evening with the Recording Academy honouring the star's musical accomplishments with a special award.

She could barely get a few words in as the crowd lost it.

"Music helps us share ourselves - our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys", Obama said. "Music shows us that all of it matters - every story within every voice, every note within every song".

Musgraves isn't a household name, but she is no stranger to the music industry. Mayer joined Keys to present this year's award in the same category.

Slowly, the two stood up for a kiss before Musgraves, still in disbelief, made her way to the stage to accept her trophy. "I'm so proud to be a part of a movie that addresses mental health issues". They're so important. And a lot of artists deal with that.

Ariana Grande, who was a no-show this year, was also among the pre-ceremony winners.

Once the red carpet has wrapped up, the Grammys 2019 will be broadcast live across America on CBS tonight at 8pm Eastern Time and 5pm Pacific Time.

Musgrave picked up album of the year for Golden Hour, which is labeled country but had wider appeal.

In what was a memorable performance, GRAMMY winners Yolanda Adams, Fantasia and past GRAMMY nominee Andra Day honored the late Queen of Soul, the legendary Aretha Franklin. But the singer appeared confused about what she was supposed to say, when Ryan was merely stating a fact rather than asking a question.

The energy kept up with a tribute to Motown, featuring J. Lo.
