'The Walking Dead': Danai Gurira Leaving as Michonne in Season 10

Earlier, it was Rick.

Mere months after Andrew Lincoln parted ways with AMC's The Walking Dead, Danai Gurira has announced that she plans to do the same, writes The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans of the cult show, based on the comics by Robert Kirkman, are certainly far from happy with the news that Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne, is leaving TWD in season 10.

Her exit comes after what's been reported as "prolonged negotiations" with AMC, the company who produces the show, which is broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ 2. The actress, playwright and social activist will then likely segue to the three Walking Dead movies that AMC is planning with former leading man Andrew Lincoln. We love Danai; we love that character. While we don't know her official episode count, THR claims she'll only appear in a "handful" of season 10's episodes.

I don't know how surprising this news is, really. Obviously, the lesson of Andy is that the show can survive anybody's departure if need be but that's not our goal.

Aside from her well-established acting talent in television and film, the Master in Fine Arts from NYU has written and starred in multiple theatre productions dating back to 2009. These days, she's in more demand for the likes of Black Panther (where she played Okoye, reprising the role for Avengers: Infinity War) and Godzilla Vs. Kong, rumoured as one of the humans avoiding being squished by the giant beasts' battle.

Michonne has always been my favorite character in the series, so it's tough to see her leave. Just hit the buttons on the top of this page!
