Oscars 2019: Will Whoopi Goldberg Be a Surprise Host?

Whoopi Goldberg's absence from The View (she's sick, they say) since the day after they announced her as an Oscar presenter+the fact that she's the only previous Oscar host listed as a presenter+she openly said on The View in January that she'd be up for hosting=???

Of course, if Goldberg did show up as the Oscars' surprise host, it wouldn't be her first rodeo. "She's not even well enough to host this show right now, let alone the Oscars". Goldberg has hosted the award show four times, and some fans thought she had secretly accepted the honor again this year. She's brilliant in her Oscar-winning role in Ghost and in The Color Purple. Before and after his departure, Goldberg expressed interest in taking on a gig which few have been willing to consider.

Goldberg, 63, has not been seen on the show since February 6. I have no idea. People need someone to take them through things. I love Whoopi Goldberg so much.

She went on to play down her own chances of being that somebody. But more than that, I have always admired her refreshing inclination to speak her mind, no matter the cost.

The co-hosts joked a bit about other reasons Goldberg's secretly out, with Behar "admitting" she's actually on maternity leave. The Guardian brings up the - wait for it - "problematic" original thinking by Goldberg on Liam Neeson. "Is he a bigot? No". I've been around a lot of real bigots.
