Israeli warplanes conduct fresh airstrikes in Gaza

Israeli warplanes on Friday struck about 100 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip in response to a rare rocket attack on Tel Aviv.

In response to the launches, the IDF said in a statement that it struck some 100 targets throughout the coastal enclave.

Another was "the main manufacturing site of standard-grade rockets in the Gaza Strip", an underground location, it said.

Gaza residents reported a number of rockets being fired back at Israel in response.

It is the beginning of one of the worst escalations in years, with hundreds of rockets and mortars fired at Israel and dozens of Israeli strikes against Gaza positions. The Israeli military said several of them were intercepted by its air defense systems.

Hamas denied responsibility for the attack on Tel Aviv, saying the rockets were launched when the group's military wing was meeting with the Egyptian mediators. No casualties were reported.

"Hamas carried out the rocket fire against Tel Aviv yesterday evening", Lieutenant-Colonel Avichay Adraee said.

Hamas is demanding concessions that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, afraid of losing his right-wing electoral base, will not want to concede in this critical time just before parliamentary elections on April 9.

On Friday, Israeli media quoted defence officials as saying a preliminary investigation indicated the rockets were fired from Gaza by mistake.

One militant rocket attack killed a Palestinian worker in the West Bank, while Israel's strikes have killed at least seven Palestinians.

Israel strikes in Gaza after rockets target Tel Aviv: Reports

Netanyahu warned Hamas on Sunday that Israel would not hesitate to launch a "large-scale operation" in Gaza if provoked.

The Israeli military accused Hamas of firing rockets from Gaza toward Tel Aviv - the first time the seaside city had been targeted since the 2014 Gaza War.

"Hamas and other terror orgs in Gaza continue to fail their people day after day & drag Gaza further & further down by constantly choosing violence", Jason Greenblatt, the White House's Middle East envoy, said on Twitter.

Netanyahu has organized the attack on the innocent people of the Gaza Strip to achieve this sinister goal, he noted.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity Friday because the Islamic militant group is yet to announce, said Egypt led meditation efforts "that have apparently paid off".

Israel holds Hamas responsible for all fire coming out of the territory.

Hamas forces armed with guns and clubs attacked today hundreds of Palestinians protesting in Gaza City against the high prices of goods and taxes imposed by the de facto government in the Gaza Strip.

More than 2,100 Palestinians were killed in Gaza during that war, majority civilians, along with 66 Israeli soldiers and seven civilians in Israel.

"I'd suggest to Hamas - don't count on it".
