Earth Hour does not claim that the event is an energy or carbon reduction exercise - it is a symbolic action to encourage individuals, businesses and governments around the world to take accountability for their ecological footprint and engage in dialogue and resource exchange that provides real solutions to our environmental challenges.

"We therefore call on everyone to cut down the rampant use of plastics as we continue to aspire for a clean, safe and healthy environment", he added.

While the Earth Hour has already kicked off this year in the Pacific island nation of Samoa, India will witness it from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday, at the country's local time. "Earth Hour 2019 with its campaign '#Connect2Earth' aims to build mass awareness on why nature is important and create an unstoppable movement for nature similar to when the world came together to tackle climate change", wrote Sid Das, Director of Digital Engagement, WWF International, in a blog post. This is part of our efforts to join millions around the world to highlight the urgency for global climate action.

Earth Hour returns today Saturday, March 30, 2019, as organizers ask participants to turn off their lights for one hour.

Earth Hour was first held in Sydney, Australia, in 2007.

Last year's event was observed in more than 7,000 towns and cities in 187 countries, according to organisers.

Paris's Eiffel Tower, New York's Empire State Building, Dubai's Burj Khalifa and the Acropolis in Athens are among the 24 global landmarks that will take part in Earth Hour.

Partit Demokratiku will be celebrating Earth Hour by candlelight in the village square of Mqabba at a pub on Triq San Bażilju.
