Rugby Australia and New South Wales to terminate Folau's contract

Rugby Australia immediately distanced itself from Folau's post, noting its integrity unit was looking into the situation.

Folau had already tested the patience of RA boss Raelene Castle with a series of homophobic posts a year ago, most notably one that said "God's plan for gay people was "hell".

He was warned but not sanctioned by RA boss Raelene Castle at the time.

10 Daily reports Folau's contract was updated previous year to include a social media clause in the wake of similar sentiment he posted.

The image, which was posted on Wednesday night in Australia, added the caption: "Those that are living in Sin will end up in Hell unless you repent".

Unless they repent of their sins and turn to God'.

'With great love, I wanted to share this video in the hope that people watch it and think about it. Jesus is coming back soon and he wants us to turn to him through repentance and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38) please don't harden your heart'.

Folau also took to Twitter to push another issue.

Qantas, who threatened to pull their sponsorship with the Wallabies previous year following a series of similarly provocative posts from Folau, echoed the disappointment of RA and NSW Rugby.

Israel Folau's Rugby Australia and New South Wales contracts are to be cancelled after he made a discriminatory post on social media.

If found to be a serious breach of contract, RA could choose to tear up Folau's contract and sack him little more than five months before the start of the Rugby World Cup.

"Rugby is a sport that continuously works to unite people".

Qantas, a major sponsor of Rugby Australia, has labelled the comments disappointing. We all talk about in sport and in business that culture is one of the most important products of a team.

Former England rugby global Joe Marler, who now plays for Harlequins in the England premiership, mocked Folau by posting two images of men kissing.

"To everyone who reads it, don't be influenced by his words".

"Be the better person and be YOU. Whoever YOU is.Hell doesn't await YOU.Happiness awaits YOU".

The 30-year-old rugby player took to his Instagram account to post a shocking anti-LGBT message: "Warning".

"I thought your first comment regarding gays going to hell was outrageous but this latest post is.this is out the gate and I think it's so wrong on so many levels".

And the prospect of returning to league where he began his career appears to be closed after Australian Rugby League chairman Peter Beattie stated he would not be welcome in the rival code.

But it leaves the Wallabies, and Australian rugby at large, in a fix, with a World Cup looming in which they face the likes of Wales and Fiji in a hard pool.

But as the fallout from the contract termination news grew, so did speculation Folau could shift and join the NRL following his removal from the Wallabies.
