Sol Pais, woman "infatuated with Columbine", found dead at Mount Evans

On Tuesday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation launched a massive manhunt for 18-year-old Sol Pais, who, authorities said, had an "infatuation" with the Columbine high school massacre, the 20th anniversary of which occurs this week.

A manhunt for Sol Pais, 18, of Surfside, Florida was underway in Colorado when her dead body was found from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sol Pais, a high school pupil, made threats online and then flew from her home in Miami Beach, Florida to Denver, Colorado, where Columbine is located.

On April 20, 1999, two students killed 12 of their schoolmates and a teacher in a mass shooting at the high school in the town of Littleton - about 10 miles from Denver.

"Everything that I've heard in briefings does not indicate that she had any assistance or friends in the area, just a fascination with the Columbine area and the horrendous crime that went on there 20 years ago", he told reporters. She was last seen near Columbine dressed in a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers and black boots.

It also includes veiled references to her "plans" and to the Columbine High School shooting, which authorities say Pais was "infatuated" with.

The Miami Herald reported that Pais lived in Surfside, Florida and that her parents had reported her missing Monday night. This story was reported from Los Angeles.

According to NBC News, Pais appears to have kept an online journal online that included drawings of one of the Columbine gunmen, Dylan Klebold, and alluded to "plans" she had been making. In emergencies, call 911, or seek care from a local hospital or mental health provider.

"Columbine continues to attract people from around the world", he said.

"We are disturbed about the events that have transpired and saddened by the heartbreaking outcome", Superintendent of Miami Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said in a statement.

The alleged threat led to school closures, affecting more than 400,000 students, and a manhunt for the woman.

Authorities have identified the woman as 18-year-old Sol Pais.

"When everything is said and done and there is no place left to run, I think I used to be someone, now I just stare into the sun".

Almost two dozen schools, including Columbine High School, were put on lockout on Tuesday, but the manhunt and increasing concern among parents prompted hundreds of schools to close on Wednesday, affecting almost half a million students.

The doors were locked at Columbine and more than 20 other schools in the Denver area as the sheriff's office said it was investigating threats against schools related to an FBI investigation. "I$3 feel like a pot of scolding water on the verge of boiling over". She made the purchase around noon and spent $300 on the Mossberg 500 pump shotgun and three boxes of ammo with a total of 55 shells, the shop's owner, Josh Rayburn, told Denver7 Chief Investigator Tony Kovaleski.
