It's not clear if any children will attend the sentencing, but they will be offered a chance to speak or can offer written statements to be read in court.

Other questions were just as hard for the girl as she said in the call, "I don't know what medication is".

"My parents took my whole life from me", said one of the Turpins' daughters, identified as Jane Doe Number 4.

When asked for details about her location, the girl said: 'I've never been out.

Back in January of 2018, a "house of horrors" was exposed after one of thirteen abused children fled the home to make a 911 call, which officially put an end to decades of abuse at the hands of their parents.

David Allen Turpin, 57, and his wife Louise Anna Turpin, 50, had pleaded guilty to 14 felony counts - including cruelty, false imprisonment, child abuse and torture of their children aged three to 30.

And after years of isolation, Hestrin said, the children seemed to "lack a basic knowledge of life".

David Turpin's lawyer read part of a statement because he was too upset. When police arrived at the Turpins' residence in Perris, California, they discovered a "House of Horrors" where the children had been chained up for months at a time and regularly starved and beaten. I only want the best for them.

The Turpin couple also gave statements to the court, apologizing to their children.

It's the first time the children are appearing publicly since the arrest of their parents, David and Louise Turpin. "I don't go out much so I don't know anything about the streets or anything", Jordan said on the call.

"I was very taken by them", Hestrin said, "by their optimism, by their hope".

'I'm not sure. Sometimes we live in filth and sometimes I wake up and I can't breathe because because how dirty the house is, ' she said.

Additionally, prosecutors dropped eight counts of perjury and one count of lewd acts on a minor against David Turpin, while a single count of assault resulting in great bodily injury was stripped from the complaint against Louise Turpin.

"I don't know, nearly a year ago", the girl replies.

The couple was found guilty of keeping their kids shackled to beds in their home in Perris.

The victims were forbidden to shower a couple of times a year, were unable to use the toilet and none of them had ever seen a dentist.

The 17-year-old girl later told investigators she had been choked so hard by her mother for watching a Justin Bieber video, she thought she would die.

The children of a California couple have forgiven their parents for years of torture and starvation as the couple faced sentencing.

Authorities said siblings - who ranged in age from 2 to 29 - had been isolated from the outside world and were often denied showers, medical care and food.

Officers who raided the family home 70 miles (112km) south of Los Angeles said they discovered a scene of squalor and the stench of human waste - a stark contrast to the tidy exterior of the property in a middle-class neighbourhood.

At the hearing, two of their adult children spoke against them, saying they are still tormented by years of systematic abuse.

Some children suffered from severe malnutrition, stunted growth and muscle wasting, including an 11-year-old girl who had arms the size of an infant.
